Mona’s latest project is playing “Grandma” in Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Adventure: a new film by Richard Linklater. Apollo is a new animated film which blends a combination of hand drawn animation, live action and CGI. Two of Mona’s child students, Danielle Guilbot and Jessica Brynn Cohen are also starring in the film. A former collegue, Tommy Palotta is the producer.
"It struck me years ago that this was my film to make, from both a chronological and proximity level - I was there, going into 3rd grade. Our unique animation style allows both the conjuring of a world long gone, and the flowing, playful expression of memory and imagination. It’s been a fun, creative journey to incorporate things like 3D graphics into a live action shoot to help bring this story to life,” said Linklater.
Rick also took Mona’s acting classes in the early 90’s and says, “Mona, got me over the hump from amateur to BOOM professional.”
Mona has acted in six Linklater films. She says, “Working on Apollo was so fun. I’ve worked with the crew on numerous projects. It was like old home week. So many creative and talented people Austin can be proud of. Apollo will be released by Netflix.
